Rep. Jasmine Crockett on Thursday said she insulted Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s “bleach blonde, bad built, butch body” because someone needed to respond to the “bully.”
“Unfortunately there has been this situation with Marjorie where she is a bully and no one ever responds. And so the idea was, she would just get away with it again,” the Texas Democrat said during an interview on “The View.” “She is rewarded for her antics and for the destruction of our institution.”
At issue was the House Oversight Committee meeting May 16 to discuss contempt proceedings against Attorney General Merrick Garland. The hearing quickly erupted into chaos when members began to attack each other over their physical appearance and intelligence. Greene insulted Crockett during the hearing, saying, “I think your fake eyelashes are messing up what you’re reading,” when Crockett questioned why Greene was bringing up Donald Trump's hush money criminal trial during the hearing. Crockett responded by, without naming her, attacking Greene for having a “bleach blonde, bad built, butch body.”
Crockett argued her comments had nothing to do with partisanship.
“It's about respect, and it's about making sure that you're doing the work of the people,” she said. “I will work with anybody that wants to make this a better country, and we don't have to agree on everything, but where we can find common ground, let's get to work and stop doing this ridiculous thing.”
