F1 driver Sir Lewis Hamilton reflects on being knighted: “Things are different when you walk in the room.”

LEWIS HAMILTON: “In England, it's a huge, huge thing. So the biggest honor, you can really receive. I got a call from Downing Street. They wanted to know if I would accept it when you have something as incredible as a sir in front of your name, it just things are different when you walk in the room.

“When I signed in 1997, and I went to McLaren, Prince Charles came to open up the factory and that day I remember having my go-kart and I'm sitting there and Prince, Charles and knelt down next to me and spoke to me.

“And I was like, “Hey, I'm Lewis Hamilton. One day, I want to be Formula One World Champion.”

“When I stood up, he's like, “It's been a long time since I've seen you, you've come a long way,” and I'm like, “Yes, it's a nice, you know, honor to see you Your Highness, and thank you so much for having me and my family, this gesture.” You know, I don't know, just just how should I tell him how grateful I am for this moment.

“You kind of keep it short because he's got like other people to get through.”
