“We can't count on these institutions to stop Donald Trump": Harry Dunn outside Trump's NY criminal trial.

Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn on Tuesday warned Americans that their institutions won’t stop Donald Trump, as he stumped for the Joe Biden campaign outside Trump’s New York hush money criminal trial.

“We can't count on these institutions to stop Donald Trump,” Dunn said outside the Manhattan courthouse with Michael Fanone, a former D.C. Metropolitan Police officer who also protected the Capitol from the insurrectionists on January 6th. “It's going to take us Americans, at the ballot box, to defeat him once and for all.”

“I just unsuccessfully ran for office. A lot of people that I met out there said they were afraid. They're scared to see what another Trump presidency looks like,” Dunn said, referring to his failed Democratic primary campaign to replace Rep. John Sarbanes in Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District. “I try to pride myself in having some type of way to make people feel comfortable, saying some kind of a word, a hug, a look, or something, it's going to be okay. I couldn't say that to those individuals.”

The Biden campaign held the press conference outside the courthouse as closing arguments were taking place in the former president’s trial. The jury is expected to start deliberating this week.

The press conference marked the Biden campaign’s first event outside the courthouse, which has attracted a stream of Republican officials who have lambasted the trial, the judge, witnesses, and the gag order Trump is under.
