The Select Committee investigating the January 6 riot at Capitol Hill, subpoenaed five House Republican lawmakers including House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) today.

After much deliberation, the committee reached a decision to issue subpoenas to Scott Perry (R-PA), Jim Jordan (R-OH), Andy Biggs (R-AZ), and Mo Brooks (R-AL), all allies of former President Donald Trump.

In a statement released by Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS), he claimed that the subpoenaed Republicans had relevant information on the January 6 attack and the events that led to it. He said that the committee is providing a chance to the members to discuss the matters with the committee before the scheduled hearing next month.

According to Thompson, these members had direct conversations with the former President leading up to the attack and also during the ongoing attack on Capitol Hill. They were also involved in the planning and coordination of certain activities on and before January 6th.

“We urge our colleagues to comply with the law, do their patriotic duty, and cooperate with our investigation as hundreds of other witnesses have done,” the press release said.
