Rep. Chuck Edwards’ town hall on Thursday evening became heated — the latest Republican town hall to become contentious as Americans protest the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and possible Medicare cuts.
“I’m a veteran and you don’t give a f*** about me,” a town hall attendee yelled at the North Carolina congressman before police escorted him out.
Roughly 400 people packed into a college auditorium — and more than 1,000 others were gathered outside the building — to voice their concerns about federal DOGE cuts, the uncertain future of Medicare and Medicaid, and waning federal support for Ukraine. People who attended the town hall booed Edwards several times to voice their displeasure:
Edwards: "The American people sent President Trump back to the White House and Republican majorities in the House and Senate...”
*Crowd boos*
“I was proud to vote recently for the House budget resolution which provides the framework...”
*Crowd boos*
Edwards: “And you wonder why folks don't wanna do these town halls.”
Edwards’ decision to host the town hall went directly against the guidance of GOP leadership, which is encouraging virtual events instead. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump blamed a string of contentious Republican town halls on “paid troublemakers,” despite no evidence to back up his claim.
