CNN aired a new audio clip of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, in which he is heard saying that he has “had it” with ex-president Donald Trump.
In the days following the January 6 riot, McCarthy claimed to have told the Republican lawmakers in a confidential conference call that then-president Donald Trump had admitted to taking responsibility for the deadly attack on Capitol Hill.
Two reporters got hold of the audio recording of the conference call. The audio is part of the reporting done for The New York Times’s reporters, Alex Burns and Jonathan Martin’s new book, “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden and the Battle for America’s Future”. The reporters shared the audio clips with CNN.
The conference call took place on January 11, 2021.
But on a separate House Republican Leadership call on January 10, 2021, McCarthy is heard saying, “I’ve had it with this guy. What he did is unacceptable. Nobody can defend that, and nobody should defend it.” The comments were aimed at Mr. Trump, according to the reporters.
