Irish fighter Conor McGregor visited the White House on Monday and railed against immigration, telling reporters that his home country is "on the cusp of losing its Irish-ness.”
"I'm here to raise the issues the people of Ireland face, and it will be music to the people of Ireland's ears because never on the main stage has the issues the people of Ireland face been spoke," McGregor said in the White House briefing room.
McGregor spoke to a few reporters ahead of a St. Patrick’s Day meeting with President Donald Trump. McGregor's visit comes months after a jury found him civilly liable for rape in Ireland.
"Our government has long since abandoned the voices of the people of Ireland, and it's high time that America is made aware of what is going on in Ireland," the former UFC champion continued.
"The illegal immigration racket is running ravage on the country," McGregor noted. "There are rural towns in Ireland that have been overrun in one swoop, that have become a minority in one swoop."
Irish Taoiseach (prime minister) Micheál Martin responded to McGregor's comments on X: “Conor McGregor’s remarks are wrong, and do not reflect the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day, or the views of the people of Ireland."
