In previously unpublished footage from January 6th, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is seen ripping Donald Trump and Capitol security.
“I just feel sick about what [Trump] did to the Capitol and the country today. He’s got to pay a price for that,” the California Democrat said at 3:30 am after the January 6th insurrection.
The clips, which news organizations published Tuesday evening, were a part of approximately 50 minutes of footage shot by Pelosi's daughter, documentary filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, on January 5, 6, and 7 of 2021. HBO turned the recording over to the GOP-led House Committee on Administration, which is conducting an investigation into the January 6th Committee's conclusion that Trump was responsible for the attack on the Capitol.
Among the notable moments from the footage:
• Pelosi called Trump a “domestic enemy in the White House.”
• “Insurrection. That’s a crime, and he’s guilty of it,” Pelosi said about Trump.
• “How many times did the [Congress] members ask, ‘Are we prepared? Are we prepared?’ We’re not prepared for the worst,” she said about Capitol law enforcement getting caught flat-footed by the size and violence of the crowd.
• “Why weren't the National Guard there to begin with? ... They clearly didn't know, and I take responsibility for not having them just prepared for more.”
