There have been gaffes galore in the presidential race so far. President Joe Biden and Donald Trump, the presumptive presidential candidates, have said their fair share of political faux paus.
“I think [Biden] should take a cognitive test like I did,” Trump told an audience at a Detroit rally. “I took a cognitive test, and I aced it. Doc Ronny. Doc Ronny Johnson. Does everyone know Ronny Johnson, congressman from Texas? He was the White House doctor.”
Trump mixed up the name of the White House doctor and current Texas Congressman Ronny Jackson while attempting to take a swipe at Biden’s cognitive health. Biden also has had his fair share of gaffes on the campaign trail and as president.
“As you know, initially, the president of Mexico, Sisi, did not want to open up the gate to allow humanitarian material to get in,” Biden said, misstating the president of Egypt’s country.
Additionally, Trump confused former President Jimmy Carter for former world No. 1 tennis player Jimmy Connors and former presidential candidate Nikki Haley for Rep. Nancy Pelosi. Biden read aloud the instructive word “pause” on a teleprompter and ended a speech with “God save the Queen, man,” months after Queen Elizabeth II died.
“You could say even this is harder than getting a ticket to the Renaissance tour or Britney’s tour,” Biden said, confusing pop star Britney Spears for Taylor Swift. “She's down in—it's kind of warm in Brazil right now.”
“Joe Biden won against Barack Hussein Obama,” Trump proclaimed, despite the fact that it was him who ran against Biden in 2020. “Has anyone ever heard of him?”
