“Where you been?”: Kamala Harris slams Republicans for talking about women and kids’ “best interest” amid abortion bans.

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on Friday condemned Republican “hypocrites” who argue they care about maternal health, women, and children while they push abortion bans.

“One in three women in America lives in a state with a Trump abortion ban. This includes Georgia and every state in the South except Virginia. Think about that, when you also combine that with what we know has been longstanding neglect around an issue like maternal mortality. Think about that, when you compound that with what has been longstanding neglect of women in communities with a lack of the adequate resources they need for health care, prenatal, during their pregnancy, postpartum,” Harris said during a campaign speech in Atlanta.

“And these hypocrites want to start talking about, this is in the best interest of women and children? Well, where you been? Where you been when it comes to taking care of the women and children of America? Where you been? How dare they? How dare they? Come on,” Harris continued.

Harris gave the speech to excoriate Republicans, including her presidential opponent Donald Trump, for tens of millions of women losing access to abortion care after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, allowing red states to severely restrict abortion or all but outlaw it. She also specifically called out Georgia’s near-total abortion ban after Amber Nicole Thurman died because the ban made it more difficult for her to access legal abortion and medical care, per a ProPublica investigation. The 28-year-old single mother needed a routine procedure to remove fetal tissue after a medication abortion, but doctors delayed surgery for 20 hours while they navigated Georgia’s abortion laws.
