“If somebody breaks in my house, they're getting shot”: Kamala Harris tells Oprah she'd use her gun on a home invader.

Kamala Harris is not afraid to talk about her gun.

During a Thursday conversation with Oprah Winfrey at a campaign event in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the Democratic presidential candidate said she would use her firearm to deal with a home invader:

“If somebody breaks in my house, they're getting shot,” Harris said.

Harris and her vice presidential running mate Tim Walz have tried to appeal to more moderate voters and contend their positions are not extreme. Walz on the campaign trail has proudly talked about owning a gun for hunting, and Harris reminded people during the presidential debate this month that she owns a gun. In 2019, she first mentioned that she owns a gun — a small pistol, per CNN — for protection.

Harris told Winfrey that some have pushed a “false choice” to argue people who want gun control measures do not support the Second Amendment and instead want to take away every American’s firearms. She said she backs “common sense” gun reforms, such as universal background checks, a ban on assault rifles, and red flag laws.
