"Depends on the details”: Rep. Byron Donalds reacts to Trump proposing government or insurance companies pay for IVF.

Rep. Byron Donalds on Tuesday expressed some support for Donald Trump’s proposal that the federal government or insurance companies pay for IVF costs.

“Well, obviously, it's something that is possible to support — depends on the details,” the Florida Republican congressman said during an interview on CNN.

Trump last week proposed free in vitro fertilization. While the former president has vacillated on abortion rights, he has supported IVF in the wake of the Alabama Supreme Court in February ruling that frozen embryos are people — a decision that reproduction rights activists argued could imperil IVF in the state.

But Trump's latest pivot on reproductive rights flies in the face of Republicans historically not showing interest in health care funding requirements. Already, Sen. Lindsey Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, said he would not back the federal government mandating that insurance companies cover iVF “because there’s no end to that.”

For his part, Donalds argued the Republican presidential ticket supports IVF for families:

“At the end of the day, what Donald Trump and JD Vance have been saying is very clear,” Donalds said. “They want to make sure that IVF is available to every family that needs to take advantage of it, because, yes, having families, building families in America, is critical to the future of our success as a nation.”

“I think it's something that members on both sides of the aisle will try to find a way to make sure that we can get there,” he added.
