Danny Strong

In which John Heilemann talks with Danny Strong, creator, showrunner, and executive producer of Dopesick, the Hulu miniseries chronicling America’s opioid epidemic. Heilemann and Strong discuss the creation of Dopesick (based off of Beth Macy’s book of the same name); the extensive reporting that went into documenting the crimes of the Sackler family - the owners of OxyContin manufacturer Purdue Pharma - and why Strong fears they may never face meaningful consequences; the start of Strong’s career as an actor in mainstream television hits like Gilmore Girls and Buffy the Vampire Slayer; and his transition to working behind the camera as screenwriter, director, and producer for a host of hit shows - including Game Change, the adaptation of Heilemann’s book about the 2008 presidential election. Strong also shares what he’s watching on television these days and what he has in store for future projects.
