"[Trump] decided, he put his name on those checks": VP Harris on people believing Trump supported pandemic "stimmies."

Kamala Harris in a Monday interview with Shannon Sharpe criticized Donald Trump for putting his signature on pandemic stimulus checks in 2020.

When interviewed on Sharpe's “Club Shay Shay” podcast and asked about polls that show Americans trust the Republican candidate more on the economy, Harris tried to correct the record for people who think Trump supported the stimulus checks that the federal government sent out during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There was a whole lot of opposition to it, including from Donald Trump's White House,” the Democratic presidential candidate said. “So really, Congress wrote those checks, but then Donald Trump, unlike any president before or after, decided, he put his name on those checks.”

“So, people thought, Donald Trump, they gave me that check,” Harris continued. “Let's clear that up first and foremost.”

ABC News in 2021 obtained internal emails that showed there was a scramble in the federal government to include Trump’s names on the checks, and that Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's name was originally supposed to appear under Trump’s. The checks ended up going out to about 35 million Americans with only Trump’s name and his signature, prompting criticism from Democrats that Trump was attempting to take all the credit during an election year.
