Tennis legend Serena Williams, on Meghan Markle's podcast "Archetypes," slams double standards for men and women tennis players as it relates to how each is seen while playing on the court.
Serena Williams: I can't win being someone different. I have to win being Serena. And sometimes that is more fierce, but is it fierce when you know, guys are saying come on and pumping their fists? That’s considered pretty exciting. But for me it’s pretty aggressive or it's what? I don't know. They said that I, oh my goodness, I'll never forget. I read this on one article that said this guy was passionate and I had a meltdown and I was like, wait, how do I have a meltdown? But this guy's function. It was, I just don’t know anymore.
Meghan Markle interrupts Serena and adds: it is the double standard and the end look. There's something that happens in being archetype, that is really dehumanizing.
