Actor Matthew McConaughey on Friday said he's thinking about running for political office.
"Yes, I have thought about running for political office, getting into this category," the Oscar winner said at the National Governors Association in response to New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy.
McConaughey spoke on-stage with Utah Governor Spencer Cox and Colorado Governor Jared Polis and answered questions from an audience of the nation’s governors.
"I'm on a learning tour — and have been for probably the last 6 years — of understanding what this category means, what it takes. Do I have instincts and intellect?" McConaughey continued. "That it would be a good fit for me, and I would be a good fit for it. That it would be useful."
"Last night I learned a lot," the actor joked with Governor Murphy. "I learned a lot from you last night through that tequila, sir."
"Yes, Governor Murphy, it is something that I've been thinking about. Something that I have a great reverence for," McConaughey said.
