Jordan's King Abdullah II calls for “ceasefire now” at the White House: “We cannot afford an Israeli attack on Rafah.”

King Abdullah II of Jordan called for a “ceasefire now” during remarks at the White House Monday after a meeting with President Joe Biden.

Jordan’s king and queen, who are vocal advocates for the Palestinian people, have been intensely critical of the Israeli government and its approach to the war against Hamas following the October 7 terror attacks on Israeli civilians.

“We cannot afford an Israeli attack on Rafah. It is certain to produce another humanitarian catastrophe. The situation is already unbearable for over a million people who have been pushed into Rafah since the war started,” the king said, referring to Israel’s expanded military offensive.

Israeli forces rescued two hostages from Hamas early Monday in a Rafah apartment building amid airstrikes that allegedly killed dozens of Palestinians.

“We cannot stand by and let this continue,” the king continued. “We need a lasting ceasefire now. This war must end.”

“We must urgently and immediately work to ensure the sustainable delivery of sufficient aid to Gaza through all possible entry points and mechanisms. And I thank you, Mr. President, for your support on this,” he added.
