Television personality and model Chrissy Teigen took a moment at the end of a Thursday White House event, which marked two years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, to speak directly to her eight-year-old daughter who was sitting in the audience.
“Luna, my girl, I hope that you see all the incredible people — mainly women — in this room, and I hope that when you grow up, you want to fight for justice in the way that we do — unapologetically, without fear — and know that your body is your own and nobody can take that away from you, OK?” Teigen said, her voice trembling slightly with emotion.
“I love you,” she added, as her husband, singer John Legend, leaned over to kiss their daughter on the head.
Teigen joined Vice President Kamala Harris for the sitdown conversation on reproductive rights and the Supreme Court’s Dobbs v. Jackson ruling that ended the federal right to an abortion. Teigen told the story about how she came to realize she had an abortion, not a miscarriage, after the Dobbs decision.
