Former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney will vote for Kamala Harris this November, his daughter, former Rep. Liz Cheney, announced at The Texas Tribune Festival on Friday.
“Dick Cheney, your father, a beloved figure among Democrats for many, many years,” Mark Leibovich, a staff writer at The Atlantic, quipped to the Wyoming Republican. “Do you care to share with us who he might be voting for?”
“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” the former House GOP conference chair replied to cheers from the room.
“Wow. Words I never expected to hear,” Leibovich remarked.
“If you think about the moment that we’re in and you think about how serious this moment is, you know, my dad believes and he’s said publicly that there’s never been an individual in our country who is as grave a threat to our democracy as Donald Trump is,” Cheney said. “And that’s the moment that we're facing.”
The former vice chair of the House’s January 6th Select Committee also made news just prior by announcing that she was endorsing Texas Democrat Colin Allred in his race to beat Sen. Ted Cruz.
