Wisconsin Gov. praises Biden for new student loan forgiveness plan despite GOP obstruction: "I kind of know about that."

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) on Monday praised President Biden for his new student loan forgiveness plan, despite obstruction from Republicans.

The governor, who has vetoed a staggering amount of bills from Wisconsin’s Republican-controlled legislature, contrasted Biden’s efforts to cancel student loan debt with the opposition from many in the GOP.

“President Biden has made this issue a top priority from the get-go, and has already delivered critical debt relief to millions of Americans, including folks right here in the great state of Wisconsin. And he's never stopped working to deliver on his promise,” Evers said ahead of Biden’s remarks in Madison, Wisconsin. “All the while, Republicans have tried to obstruct him every step of the way. I kind of know about that — just saying.”

The plan includes proposals to cancel runaway interest, forgive debt for those who have been repaying for over two decades, aid those eligible for debt forgiveness programs, cancel debt for those cheated by universities, and provide relief for Americans facing financial hardships.

“By working to get Wisconsinites out from under student loan debt, President Biden is helping give folks a little more breathing room in their household budgets to save, to buy a home, to buy a car, start a family, start a business, and prepare for a future. And he's helping make sure our kids have the future and opportunities that we promised them. Folks, that is leadership,” Evers added.
