Rep. Jasmine Crockett on Thursday mocked Bob Costello’s chaotic testimony last week for the defense at Donald Trump’s hush money criminal trial in New York.
“Why did y'all put this boy on?” the Texas Democrat said during an interview on “The View,” referring to Trump’s defense team. “So, y'all are really bad.”
Costello was at the center of one of the most dramatic days of the trial, staring down the presiding judge, Juan Merchan, and making comments under his breath. That led to Merchan briefly clearing out the chamber to criticize Costello and remind him to respect decorum during the trial.
The defense had summoned Costello, a former federal prosecutor, to poke holes at and weaken the testimony of former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen, who was the prosecution’s key witness. Cohen had testified that Trump was aware of the hush money payment he made to adult film star Stormy Daniels in the runup to the 2016 presidential election and reimbursed him. Costello rejected Cohen arguing Costello and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani were part of a “pressure campaign” orchestrated by Trump against Cohen.
