Trump’s taking credit for Shedeur Sanders getting drafted by the Browns?

It seems as though President Donald Trump might be fond of the idea that he had something to do with Shedeur Sanders getting drafted.

Sanders was the talk of the 2025 NFL Draft — sliding from being a potential first-round pick to a Day 3 selection. The quarterback, who played college football for his NFL legend father Deion Sanders, aka “Coach Prime,” at Colorado, was finally taken by the Cleveland Browns at the 144th overall choice. Sanders’ over-confidence and reportedly poor pre-draft interviews were said to have played a part in his disappointing draft showing.

“What is wrong with NFL owners, are they STUPID? Deion Sanders was a great college football player, and was even greater in the NFL. He’s also a very good coach, streetwise and smart! Therefore, Shedeur, his quarterback son, has PHENOMENAL GENES, and is all set for Greatness,” Trump posted on Truth Social on Friday, a day before Sanders was ultimately selected by the Browns. “He should be ‘picked’ IMMEDIATELY by a team that wants to WIN. Good luck Shedeur, and say hello to your wonderful father!”

Trump Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt seemed to confirm that White House believes the president deserves some of the credit for Sanders finally getting picked, when asked about it at a Monday morning press briefing.

“Does the president think he deserves credit for Sanders getting picked, and does he think going to the Browns is better than being undrafted?” Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked the press secretary.

“All I will say is, the president put out a statement and a few rounds later he was drafted,” Leavitt replied. “So, I think the facts speak for themselves on that one, Peter.”
