Donald Trump on Wednesday said the Arizona Supreme Court upholding a near-total abortion ban in the state went too far.
“Did Arizona go too far?” a reporter asked, referring to the Arizona Supreme Court upholding an 1864 law restricting abortion in the state.
“Yeah, they did. And that will be straightened out. And, as you know, it's all about states' rights. That will be straightened out,” Trump said while speaking to reporters after landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ahead of a campaign fundraiser. “I'm sure that the governor and everybody else are going to bring it back into reason, and that will be taken care of, I think, very quickly.”
The former president also cast doubt on the Florida Supreme Court recently upholding a 6-week ban in the state. However, Trump maintained that states — not the federal government — should ultimately have the final decision.
“For 52 years, people have wanted to end Roe v. Wade to get it back to the states. We did that. It was a perfect system. We did that, and now the states have it, and the states are putting out what they want. It's the will of the people,” Trump continued. “So, Florida is probably going to change. Arizona is going to definitely change. Everybody wants that to happen. And you're getting the will of the people.”
