President Joe Biden was interrupted by pro-Palestinian protesters during a speech in Raleigh, North Carolina, Tuesday.
“What about the health care in Gaza?!” protestors began screaming out during his remarks on health care.
“Hospitals in Gaza are being bombed!” was also yelled out.
Largely unintelligible screaming continued as Biden remained mostly silent at the podium before telling his security, “Be patient with them.”
“They have a point,” the president said. “We need to get a lot more care into Gaza.”
This comes after The Washington Post reported earlier this month that both the White House and the Biden campaign have actively sought to minimize disruptions at the president’s public events, “especially since pro-Palestinian protesters interrupted Biden and Harris numerous times at a January rally focused on abortion rights in Virginia.”
Neither team has held an event with the president that is open to the general public since Biden launched his reelection effort last April.
Five people who spoke to WaPo on the condition of anonymity said all attendees for Biden campaign rallies “must be invited and are required to show their invitations as they enter.” All of Biden’s other recent campaign events have been “surprise stops” at places such as restaurants “where people do not have notice” — and his reelection team has kept the location of the president’s events largely under wraps.
