News pundits this week are figuring out what the online "brat" trend means and how it relates to the likely Democratic nominee and Vice President Kamala Harris' bid for president.
"We're, we're seeing talk of coconut trees and, and even 'brat,'" CNN's Jim Acosta asked Gen Z Congressman Maxwell Frost, on-air. "Do you know what brat means?"
"Charli xcx tweeted this: 'kamala IS brat,'" MSNBC's Rachel Maddow said, referring to the British pop star. "I'm not really sure I know what that means, but apparently the internet knows."
Following President Joe Biden's exit from the 2024 race and Charli xcx's post on X, Harris' campaign changed its X banner to the color of the pop star's "brat" album cover with the text "kamala hq."
Videos of the vice president with a similar green overlay set to songs from the "brat" album have flooded social media platforms.
"I will aspire to be brat," CNN's Jake Tapper said.
