"Strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for": Harris on Biden's "garbage" gaffe.

Kamala Harris on Wednesday said she strongly disagreed with any rhetoric that criticizes people for whom the vote for, in response to President Joe Biden's "garbage" gaffe.

"First of all, he clarified his comments, but let me be clear: I strongly disagree with any criticism of people based on who they vote for," Harris said, distancing herself from Biden's apparent gaffe.

Biden clarified his Tuesday comments, in which he appeared to call Trump supporters "garbage," saying that he was referring to the racist rhetoric in a comedian Tony Hinchcliffe's joke about Puerto Rico during Trump's Madison Square Garden rally Sunday.

"You heard my speech last night and continuously throughout my career," the Democratic candidate for president said. "I believe that the work that I do is about representing all the people, whether they support me or not."

"As president of the United States, I will be a president for all Americans, whether you vote for me or not," Harris added.

"I respect the fact that we all have so much more in common than what separates us," the vice president said.
