Stacey Abrams (D) slams opponent Governor Brian Kemp (R-GA) for another hospital closure:
“There have been 14 closures in the state of Georgia, since 2013, and nearly half of them will have occurred under one Governor, under one person, and that is Brian Kemp.
Brian Kemp has refused to take responsibility but he will be happy to take credit, and in this case he needs to take credit for costing the lives and the jobs of Georgians in this area with the closure of Wellstar Medical. We know that the Atlantic Medical Center has served this community for more than 100 years. It has survived for 100 years but under Brian Kemp, we will lose this hospital and we will lose opportunity yet again.”
The Atlanta Medical Center is scheduled to close Nov. 1 after more than $100 million in losses over the past year. The hospital provides health care for many low-income Atlanta residents.
