Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) lamented “Saturday Night Live’s” portrayal of Sen. Katie Britt (R-AL) on an episode of his “Verdict” podcast that came out Wednesday, telling the freshman senator, who was mocked for her State of the Union rebuttal, that she was lucky someone as “hot” as Scarlett Johansson was picked to play her.

“The thing that was the coolest is, you’re played by Scarlett Johansson,” Cruz said, referencing SNL’s mockery of Britt’s SOTU response.

“I mean, how awesome is that?” Britt replied.

“Look, Scarlett Johansson is hot, and I am genuinely jealous,” Cruz told Britt. “SNL has come after me a bunch of times. They don’t ever have Tom Cruise play me. How come you get a gorgeous movie star?”

“By the way, in terms of Republican portrayals — like, they have had some vicious ones — let’s start off with at least you were played by a woman,” Cruz later continued. “I’ve also been played by a woman.”

“They cast Aidy Bryant as me, and she’s really funny,” Cruz added. “Coming off the whole Cancun thing, they had her in like cornrows and sipping a margarita. And it was hysterical. I laughed. I thought it was awesome. And she looks pretty good in a beard, by the way. It’s a good look.”

“It worked for her,” Britt chimed in.
