At the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Big Tech hearing Wednesday, Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) essentially forced Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg into apologizing to the families of victims who were impacted by child sexual exploitation online. Zuckerberg stood up, turned around, and addressed the families as they held up pictures of the victims in the hearing room.
“Let me ask you this — there’s families of victims here today — have you apologized to the victims?” Hawley asked Zuckerberg.
With Zuckerberg stammering, Hawley proceeded to ask, “Would you like to do so now? They’re here, you’re on national television, would you like now to apologize to the victims who have been harmed by your product? Show him the pictures. Would you like to apologize for what you’ve done to these good people?”
Zuckerberg then hesitantly stood up and turned to address the hearing audience: “I’m sorry ... No one should have to go through the things that your families have suffered.”
