Actor Robert De Niro on Tuesday said that Donald Trump “could destroy the world” if he wins the 2024 election, while he stumped for President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign outside Trump's New York criminal trial.
De Niro, who attended the press conference with former police officers Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone, who protected the Capitol on January 6th, noted the shouts of Trump’s supporters, who were protesting outside the Manhattan courthouse. Closing arguments were taking place in the former president’s hush money criminal trial, and the jury is expected to start deliberating this week.
“Donald Trump has created this,” De Niro said, referring to the protesters. “He should be telling them not to do this, but he just wants to sow total chaos.”
“This is my neighborhood: downtown New York City. I grew up here and feel at home in these streets,” De Niro continued. “I love this city. I don't want to destroy it. Donald Trump wants to destroy not only the city but the country and eventually, he could destroy the world.”
