Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) criticized House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Wednesday for not allowing a vote on a bipartisan foreign aid package, which includes funding for Ukraine aid.
“This aid bill, as it relates to Ukraine, is simply a question of whether you support Vladimir Putin or whether you do not support Vladimir Putin,” Goldman said at a news conference with other Democrats. “For some reason, Donald Trump supports Vladimir Putin, and because he controls half of the Republican Party in the House, this bill has not come to the floor, even though there's support from a supermajority of the House of Representatives.”
“You don't have to know where Ukraine is on a map to know that we must support Ukraine in its battle for democracy against a dictatorial tyrant who will not stop until all of democracy is eliminated from this world,” he added.
The Senate passed the $95 billion supplemental package in February which included funding for Israel, Taiwan, and humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza. Johnson has refused to take it up, demanding that Democrats first support substantial changes to U.S. border security policy.
