While speaking at the Volvo Group Powertrain plant in Hagerstown, Maryland, President Biden called out Republicans who refer to the January 6th insurrectionists as patriots. On January 6th, 2021, thousands of Donald Trump supporters breached the Capitol in a deadly insurrection to try to prevent former Vice President Mike Pence from counting the electoral votes that confirmed President Biden had won the presidential election.
BIDEN: “Folks, you know, we talk about democracy, whether it's at risk. Well, democracy is at risk in most places when the only definition of whether you win, you either have to win the election or it's been stolen. When in fact, you have, when you have in fact, you're in a situation where, you know, a group of people attack the Capitol like we've never seen, smashed down the doors, go after people, three cops end up dying so on and so forth. And they’re referred to as Patriots? Patriots? That's democracy?”
