“Prayers don’t do much, right? We need to make some gun reforms”: Student calls out DeSantis, Trump after FSU shooting.

A Florida State University student on Thursday called out Gov. Ron DeSantis and President Donald Trump, and questioned whether “prayers” were working, after the latest school shooting in the United States.

“I’m gonna call on like Governor Ron DeSantis, the president, Donald Trump. You know, this stuff keeps going on, right? But we’re praying every day. You know, prayer’s good. Prayers, spirituality’s good. But prayers don’t do much, right?” the FSU student said in an interview with WCTV on campus after the shooting. “It’s good for the soul, but is this still happening? I think it is. So, we need to make some gun reforms.”

Two people were killed in the shooting Thursday morning, per local law enforcement, and at least five people were transported to a local hospital with gunshot wounds. Police took the suspected gunman into custody.

One witness said the shooter fired off at least 15 rounds for about 20 to 30 seconds, per NBC News: “I saw him shoot the lady … like five feet in front of him with the pistol,” student McKenzie Heeter said.

There have been at least 81 reported mass shootings in the United States this year, per the Gun Violence Archive, after 503 last year.
