House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Thursday ripped fellow New Yorker Donald Trump for bringing extreme conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, who called 9/11 an “inside job,” to the remembrance ceremony earlier this week.
“It was shocking. and irresponsible. and offensive to the thousands of people who lost their lives on September 11,” the New York Democrat said during his weekly news conference. "The fact that on September 11, this sacred day, he would bring a 9/11 conspiracy theorist to participate in events during this solemn commemoration should shock the conscience of all decent Americans.”
“Let's be clear: Al-Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden are responsible for the horrors of September 11,” Jeffries added. “No one else. No one else. No one else.”
Loomer is a fringe far-right political activist and former candidate for Congress in Florida who describes herself as being “pro-white nationalism” and a “proud Islamophobe.” She has been by Trump’s side this week, traveling with him to the presidential debate and the 9/11 Memorial ceremony in downtown Manhattan.
