Liz Cheney says she'll vote for Kamala Harris in the upcoming election because of the "danger that Donald Trump poses."

Former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney on Wednesday said she will vote for Democrat Kamala Harris for president over her Republican foe Donald Trump.

“As a conservative, as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this. And because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris in this election,” the former Wyoming lawmaker said during a conversation at Duke University.

Trump has repeatedly targeted Cheney for her criticism of him and for serving as the vice chair of the House January 6th committee that investigated the insurrection. A Trump-backed primary challenger ended up defeating Cheney in 2022.

But Cheney has continued to describe Trump as a threat to democracy, and is one of the most outspoken Republican critics of him. And while the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney did not give an explicit endorsement of Harris, she indicated she decided to vote for the current vice president because of the importance of the vote in swing states.

“Because we are here in North Carolina, I think it is crucially important for people to recognize: Not only is what I've just said about the danger that Trump poses something that should prevent people from voting for him, but I don't believe that we have the luxury of writing in candidates' names, particularly in swing states,” Cheney said.
