A liberal Fox News contributor on Thursday corrected a Republican on air about how to pronounce Kamala Harris’ name.
“Think about Ka-MAH-luh Harris, who goes to Pennsylvania,” GOPAC Chairman and Republican strategist David Avella started on “America Reports.”
“KA-muh-luh. That's how you pronounce her name,” Marie Harf said, cutting him off.
“Oh, come on, you two,” host John Roberts said.
“It's always interrupting, but it's the only way they get a message in here,” Avella responded.
Some conservative on-air personalities and Republicans, including Donald Trump, have mispronounced Harris’ first name in recent weeks — and often employ the pronunciation that Avella used — since she has gained more spotlight after President Joe Biden exited the race for the White House.
Harris is the first Black woman and South Asian woman to serve as vice president and presidential nominee for a major American political party, and her first name originates from South Asia. Her mother was from India, and her father is from Jamaica.
