Is Donald Trump Jesus? His supporters seem to think so

Donald Trump’s supporters continue to draw comparisons between the former president and Jesus Christ.

“The Democrats and the fake news media want to constantly talk about, oh, President Trump is a convicted felon,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told Trump supporters rally in Las Vegas on Sunday. “Well, you want to know something? The man that I worship is also a convicted felon.”

Nevada GOP chairman Michael McDonald added: “What more could be said than thank God we're here in Sunset Park to worship and bring back the greatest president we've ever known in our generation?”

The pervasive religious comparisons have surrounded Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. Several Trump supporters, especially Evangelical Christians, back the former president as upholding their Christian values, despite Trump’s marital conduct and legal cases. Slogans on clothing, such as “Jesus is my savior, Trump is my president” and “God, Guns & Trump,” appear at rallies.

“My first thought went to, well, Jesus Christ died for my sins,” a Trump supporter noted regarding his indictments. “Jesus died for me.”

Trump has embraced some of these comparisons to Jesus in reference to his legal troubles. During his civil trial on business fraud, Trump amplified an image on his social media platform, Truth Social, of him sitting next to a depiction of Christ. Amidst a barrage of posts on the social media site on Easter Sunday earlier this year, Trump posted an article from the Washington Times entitled “The Crucifixion of Donald Trump.”

“Just thank God for President Trump,” declared another supporter. “He’s the hands and feet of Jesus.”
