“I don’t always agree what my husband is saying or doing and that’s OK”: Melania Trump tells Fox & Friends.

Incoming First Lady Melania Trump on Monday stressed her independence, that she does not always agree with her husband Donald Trump, and that she sometimes gives him advice.

“Some people, they see me as just the wife of the president, but I’m standing on my own two feet, independent. I have my own thoughts. I have my own yes and no,” Trump said during a sitdown interview with “Fox & Friends” co-host Ainsley Earhardt ahead of the inauguration. “I don’t always agree what my husband is saying or doing, and that’s OK.”

Earhardt: “Are you able to tell him when you disagree?”

Trump: “I gave him my advice, and sometimes he listens, sometimes he doesn’t, and that’s OK.”

Trump made the comments just months after she publicly disagreed with her husband, then a Republican presidential candidate, over the issue of abortion, fiercely defending abortion rights and arguing women should have the right to choose “free from any intervention or pressure from the government.”

Trump, who had been previously praised by some anti-abortion advocates, said in a memoir that she backed some restrictions, such as requiring parental consent for minors. But she also defended the medical necessity of late-term abortions — something her husband has frequently railed against. She also said she disagreed with Trump on aspects of immigration policy.
