House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from California, quickly shut down a reporter who asked if she was going to be in a leadership position after the midterms. Recently, Representative Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat from Virginia, called for new Democratic leadership after Democratic leadership stalled a vote on a bill that would prevent Congress members from owning and trading stocks. Representative Nancy Pelosi has been in Congress for 35 years, and has held a leadership role for 19 of those years. The midterms are set to be a close race and with many progressive Congressional members in the Democratic Party, there have been calls for the established politician to step aside from her leadership role.
REPORTER: “You intend to be here in the new Congress as the Speaker? As the minority leader?”
PELOSI: “I'm strictly focused on winning the next election. Do you want to talk about that? Okay. Is that your question? Who's next?”
