Fox News suggests solar eclipse could impact illegal border crossings: "A real opportunity for smugglers and cartels."

Fox News on Monday suggested that the solar eclipse could impact illegal crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border.

While other outlets have focused on the eclipse’s path of totality and the potential for clouds in the weather forecast, Fox’s programming used the eclipse to spread fear about migrants illegally entering the country.

The anchors reacted to the path of the solar eclipse intersecting with Eagle Pass, Texas, a border town. Eagle Pass has been stuck in the middle of a legal standoff between Texas and the Biden administration over Gov. Greg Abbott’s (R-TX) decision to erect razor wire to stop migrants from entering the state.

“A rare celestial event collides with a policy failure on the ground,” “America’s Newsroom” co-anchor Dana Perino said. “The southern border will be directly in the path of totality today when the moon covers the sun for nearly four minutes.”

“We are told that officials are bracing for higher traffic than usual, and that means a real opportunity for smugglers and cartels and migrants to come right in,” co-anchor Bill Hemmer added.
