Fani Willis to Trump co-defendant lawyer: “These people are on trial for trying to steal an election...I’m not on trial”

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis fired back at Ashleigh Merchant, an attorney for one of Donald Trump’s co-defendants in Georgia’s election interference case, for trying to access her flight records.

Willis dramatically took the stand Thursday during a hearing focused on her relationship with Nathan Wade, the prosecutor she hired to lead the state’s case against Trump. The hearing examined the details of Willis’ relationship with Wade as defendants seek to disqualify her from prosecuting the former president and his allies.

“So, your office objected to us getting Delta records for flights that you may have taken with Mr. Wade,” Merchant said.

“No, no, no, look: I object to you getting records. You’ve been intrusive into people’s personal lives,” Willis replied. “You’re confused. You think I’m on trial — these people are on trial for trying to steal an election in 2020. I’m not on trial, no matter how hard you try to put me on trial.”
