Dr. Fauci says the U.S. is "out of the pandemic phase" due to the number of new cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease said that the U.S. is out of the pandemic phase though it is not over globally.

“We are certainly right now in this country, out of the pandemic phase,” the nation’s top immunologist said Tuesday while talking to Judy Woodruff of PBS NewsHour.

He said the rate of daily infections is quite low at present. He explained that since there are not 900,000 thousand infections every day or tens and thousands of hospitalizations and thousands of deaths in the country right now, the country has moved out of the pandemic state.

He went on to say that it is difficult to completely eradicate this virus. But intermittent vaccination every year or longer might be required to keep it at bay.

A pandemic means a rapid spread of infection among people. So, if we look at the global scenario, it is far from over according to Dr. Fauci.
