Biden makes memory joke in NACo speech: “I know I don’t look like it, but I’ve been around a while. I do remember that.”

While giving remarks at the National Association of Counties in Washington, D.C., on Monday, President Joe Biden made a joke about all of the attention being paid to his memory.

“I know I don’t look like it, but I’ve been around a while,” the president said.

“I do remember that,” Biden added with a smile, causing the crowd to laugh and cheer.

The conversation around the president’s age and mental fitness reached a fever pitch following the release of special counsel Robert Hur’s report on Biden’s handling of classified documents last week. In it, Hur had unfavorable commentary regarding Biden’s memory, even claiming the president had trouble recalling when his son Beau died.

Hur also described Biden in his report as a “well-meaning, elderly man.”

Biden gave unscheduled remarks at the White House last week, hours after the report was made public, to criticize Hur’s depiction of him. Members of the administration, including Vice President Kamala Harris, have called the report “politically motivated.”
