Former President Joe Biden on Tuesday called out “roughly 30%” of people with “no heart,” in his first public speech since he left the Oval Office.
As he spoke to disability advocates Tuesday night, giving the keynote address at the 2025 Conference of Advocates, Counselors, and Representatives for the Disabled, Biden warned about political divisions and raised some eyebrows:
“I’ve been doing this a long time. It’s never been this divided,” Biden said. “Granted, it’s roughly 30%, but it’s a 30% that has no heart.”
“Who we see in America, that’s what we believe in: fairness. And that’s the America we can never forget or walk away from,” he continued.
It’s not clear whether the 30% number was a reference to hardline Trump supporters — whom he has previously called “garbage” and not reflective of the larger Republican Party — or divided Americans as a whole.
In the speech, Biden did not refer to President Donald Trump by name, but he said the new administration has undergone “breathtaking” levels of “damage” and “destruction.” He also criticized the new White House and Elon Musk for threats to Social Security, calling out Musk for deeming it a “Ponzi scheme.”
