White House reporter asks in press gaggle about reports that Elon Musk’s drug use is concerning execs at his companies.

During a press gaggle aboard Air Force One, the National Security Council’s John Kirby and White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre declined to comment when asked by a journalist about a Wall Street Journal report detailing concerns of some executives and board members at Elon Musk’s companies, like Tesla and SpaceX, regarding the billionaire’s use of illegal drugs — including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, mushrooms, and ketamine.

Reporter: “There was some reports over the weekend about Elon Musk and some concerns about his drug use and the behavior that he’s been exhibiting — some of his board members concerned. [Are you] aware of that reporting? He has some contracts with the government. Any reaction to it? There’s connections between…”

Kirby: “We wouldn’t comment on that.”

Jean-Pierre: “We wouldn’t comment on private companies.”

Musk has denied the drug use allegations. In a post on X, Musk responded to a specific allegation from the WSJ article, which reported that a turning point came in 2018, when Musk “got into trouble with NASA for smoking marijuana on the Joe Rogan show, raising red flags for some about the business impact of Musk’s conduct and causing employees at SpaceX to be randomly tested for drugs.”

“After that one puff with Rogan, I agreed, at NASA’s request, to do 3 years of random drug testing,” Musk said. “Not even trace quantities were found of any drugs or alcohol.”
