White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, when asked Thursday about President Joe Biden mixing up the names of world leaders earlier this week, brought up gaffes others have made.
“As it relates to the names and what he was trying to say, many people, elected officials, many people, they can misspeak sometimes, right?” Jean-Pierre said.
“On Sunday, [House] Speaker Johnson said Iran instead of Israel. This happens,” Jean-Pierre continued. “Sean Hannity himself has said Jason Chaffetz when he met Matt Gaetz.”
Twice this week, President Biden claimed to have met with world leaders who have been dead for years.
At a Las Vegas rally, the president claimed that he had met with “Mitterrand from Germany, I mean from France,” appearing to mix up François Mitterrand, a former French president, with current French President Emmanuel Macron.
Later in the week, Biden said he had met with “Helmut Kohl,” a former Chancellor of Germany, mixing him up with former Chancellor Angela Merkel.
