Kamala Harris’ new running mate, Tim Walz, made a JD Vance couch joke at a rally that formally introduced the Democratic ticket in Philadelphia.
The internet has been in an uproar recently, making jokes about a false claim that Vance wrote about having sexual relations with a couch in his book “Hillbilly Elegy,” which the Minnesota governor jokingly alluded to in his speech Tuesday night.
“I can’t wait to debate the guy,” Walz said to the audience, referring to Vance.
“That is, if he’s willing to get off the couch and show up,” Harris’ VP pick added, which caused the crowd to explode. The vice president appeared to be trying hard not to laugh behind Walz.
“I gotta tell you, pointing out just an observation of mine that I made, I just have to say it. You know it, you feel it: These guys are creepy and, yes, just weird as hell,” Walz continued. “That’s what you see. That's what you see.”
Walz originated the “Republicans are weird” messaging that the Democratic Party has run with on the campaign trail.
