President Donald Trump said he thinks his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, will “be okay” with Elon Musk, the head of his administration’s controversial Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), expressing his love for the president on the platform X (formerly Twitter), which Musk also owns.
“Elon Musk said today, ‘I love Donald Trump as much as a straight man can love another man,’” Fox News reporter Peter Doocy read out at a press conference Trump was holding with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the White House on Friday afternoon.
“What does the first lady think about that?” Doocy asked the president.
“Oh, I think she’ll be okay with it somehow,” Trump responded, prompting some laughter from the room.
Despite the press conference being unrelated to the DOGE organization or Musk, the president was asked several questions on those topics as the world’s richest man continues to make headlines for his involvement in sensitive government affairs.
