Serena Williams has announced she will retire from tennis after dropping a hint Monday: "I can't do this forever." Williams announced her retirement officially in a long article in Vogue magazine.
REPORTER: At this point in your career or your life, what is it that continues to drive you or keeps you hungry in this sport?
WILLIAMS: I don't know, I guess there's just a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm getting closer to the light. So yeah, so that's like lately that's been that's been it for me. I can't wait to get to that light. Right?
REPORTER: I know you're joking, but can you…
WILLIAMS: I'm not joking!
REPORTER: Okay. So then explain to me. What, what the light is to you? What the light represents?
WILLIAMS: Freedom. Yeah, I love playing though. It's like, it's amazing but, you know, it's like I can't do this forever so it's just like sometimes you just want to try your best, to enjoy the moments and do the best that you can.
