Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri, interrupted Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas at a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing, furious that a DHS employee had posted “Free PALESTINE” online, demanding to know why she had not been fired.
Mayorkas, equally mad, responded that “to suggest that that is emblematic of the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security is despicable.” Hawley responded that she did work there, and repeated, “Have you fired her? Have you fired her?” before saying “Don't come to this hearing room when Israel has been invaded and Jewish students are barricaded in libraries in this country and cannot be escorted out because they are threatened for their lives. You have employees who are celebrating genocide and you are saying it's despicable for me to ask the question?”
As Mayorkas tried to respond, Hawley kept asking “Has she been fired?” and "Why has she not been fired?” for a total of thirteen times.
